It is that time of the year again….back to school. This probably means nothing to you (as a man) but means a whole new set of responsibilities for your wife (as a woman).

All those little ones (and not so little ones) need new clothes, backpacks, supplies, etc. It means PTO meetings and sports practices, school activities and bake sales.

If you have a little one who is starting Kindergarten (as do I) it can be especially stressful for your wife. Then there’s the big kids (who think they are adults) who are off to college. I can’t even imagine what that will feel like one day. But I digress……

Mothers usually handle the bulk of these responsibilities, right? So what your wife needs is some stress relief, and you are just the person to give it to her.

The obvious thing for you to do is simply take some of these responsibilities off her, but that is not always possible due to work schedules and other issues. So here are some other ideas that might help.

1. Hire Her an Assistant For the Day.

Literally hire someone you know who can help her do errands, shopping, etc. Maybe this person can do the normal day to day errands while she handles the back to school stuff. For example, this person can do the grocery shopping, clean the house, wash the car, etc.

2. Pick Up Dinner From a Restaurant On Your Way Home From Work.

Doesn’t sound like much, but she will appreciate the gesture. This means no cooking AND no clean up for her.

3. Buy a Family Calendar To Help Her Stay Organized During the School Year.

Don’t just buy it, wrap it up pretty too. I know you probably think that’s a silly waste of time, but it will make it MUCH more exciting for her. Every time a man bothers to take that extra little step it thrills the heck out of his wife, so why not go for as many points as you can get? You can always get it wrapped at the store or ask a family member to do it for you. Amazon has lots of Family Organization Calendars to choose from including the one shown below.

4. Give Her a Thank You Card with a Certificate To Her Favorite Spa.

Every girl likes to get a little bit of pampering (it goes along with that feeling like a princess thing). And let’s face it – when kids and bills and all life’s challenges come along, then women tend to lose themselves in all the tasks that need to be done. So give your honey a little “vacation” from those tasks, only if for an hour or two.

Just being recognized for all her hard work means more than you probably think. Even if you can’t swing the spa certificate, still give her the thank you card (and maybe a foot massage at home). It will make her day.

And remember, a happy wife means a happier, stronger marriage. Invest more in her, and she will invest more in you.
