Pur Minerals Fully Charged Mascara Review

Pur Minerals Fully Charged Mascara Review

Pur Minerals Fully Charged Mascara Review

I have been researching mascaras for some time, which let do this Pur Minerals Fully Charged Mascara Review.

First, I set out to find the ultimate lengthening mascara. I tried a couple different ones before realizing that my eyelashes were suddenly getting shorter. They were literally breaking off. They got so short that I actually freaked out a little. I was afraid they might not go back to their previous length.

I can’t say for sure if the mascara caused the problem or if it could have been the make up remover. Again, I tried several different removers at this time. It would be difficult to pin the blame on any one product because I switched so many times.

Next, I started looking so a mascara that was just “safe”. I tried a couple different ones before realizing that my sight was become extremely blurry. However, I noticed that every time I had some extended time of work my sight would improve again.

After doing some research and doing some trial and error, it became clear that either mascara or make up remover (or both) was making my eye sight blurry.

The Dilema

No girl wants to give up her mascara, right?

I have been wearing and/or playing in make up since I was five years old and I don’t care to stop now. So I started researching and looking for a mascara without chemicals.

Turns out these are amazing difficult to find. You have to look past the advertising and read the actually ingredient list. (Look Up Any Cosmetic on EWG.org.)

This led me to Pur Minerals Fully Charged Mascara. (This mascara has a rating of “1” on the site, which is the best you can get. I simply searched “mascara” and the most natural ones came up first.)

The Good & the Bad

After reading some of the reviews of other more natural mascaras I was afraid this one might go on wet and glumpy, but it didn’t. Two coats on each eye gets a nice look that gets my eyelashes looking long and luscious without looking over coated. (I actually must put three coats on one eye because those lashes haven’t completely recovered from previous products.)

It stayed on all day and I had no problems at all with smudging or flaking.

Some reviews I had read mentioned that is came off easily while others said it was difficult to remove. It came right off for me. No raccoon eyes after I got out of the bath. I used a mild cream remover, but tonight I plan to try plain soap and water to see what happens.

This morning it applied the mascara again, and it went on perfectly again. (JOY, JOY!)

This is my assessment so far. Today is just the second day of wear for me. However, I will update this post if anything changes.

The Good:

  • Goes on evenly
  • Defines & lengthens
  • No flaking
  • No smudging
  • Removes easily

The Bad:

  • Only comes in one color – hope you like black 🙂

Here is a list of the ingredients as listed on EWG.org:

Benefit Cosmetics BADgal Lash Mascara Review

Benefit Cosmetics BADgal Lash MascaraBenefit Cosmetics BADgal Lash Mascara Review

This was my second attempt to love Benefit Mascara, but alas…..it is pointless. I realize Benefit mascara is the best seller at the moment (They’re Real is actually the best seller), but it just doesn’t make me happy.

See my review of They’re Real here.

What’s good about it:

  1. Adds a certain amount of length to lashes
  2. I’m thinking…….
  3. Still thinking………..

What’s not good about it:

  1. Difficult to remove
  2. Brush too large for my personal taste
  3. Rubs off around my eyes
  4. Also flakes as the day goes on
  5. The price is fairly high for the average girl

I know it sounds like I hate this mascara, but I don’t. I tried this one after consulting a salesperson at Ulta about all the reasons why I didn’t like Benefit They’re Real Mascara. She recommended BADGal mascara instead. In fact, when I first tried They’re Real the salesperson tried to talk me into BADGal to begin with.

The only big difference I can tell between the two is that BadGal has a huge brush. Now, I know that some people just love those huge brushes. If you are one of those people, then this might be the one for you.

Since Loreal changed the Voluminous formula I have really been floundering in the mascara department. I have tried several different versions, but was about to give up on ever finding a mascara that made me happy again.

However, I was recently perusing Amazon reviews and found a new contender. I had visions in my head of another let down. I could see myself throwing it into my “secondary” makeup bag, where it would probably never be used again.

I decided to give it a try anyway, and I am overjoyed that I did! It costs less that half of Benefit and works great so far.

Believe it or not…..it’s Revlon Grow Luscious mascara! (I also bought the plumping version of this one, but I haven’t tried it yet. Giving this one the full trial first.)

The Correct Way To Apply Mascara

The Correct Way To Apply Mascara The Correct Way To Apply Mascara

Everyone know how to apply mascara, right? I mean, we have all been doing it since we played in our mothers’ make up bag when we were five.

However, as we all know, applying make up is both an art and a science. So I decided it was time we all had a good tutorial. And guess what? I had some difficulty finding a good one. (When I clicked most links I was taken to advertisements instead of information.)

The following information came from Makeup.com and covers the basics. Hope you enlightens you!

1. Always curl your lashes. This is the most important step because it really changes the way your lashes look—with mascara and without. (Quick Tip: Run your eyelash curler under hot water or blast with the blow dryer for a few seconds to heat it up. This will help hold the curl. Just be sure to test the temperature on your hand before you hold the curler up to your eye.)

2. Apply mascara to your bottom lashes first. If you’ve ever ended up with mascara dotted on your eyelid, you know the importance of the bottom first technique. Brush the wand down your eyelashes, being careful not to touch the brush to your eye.

3. Now for the top eyelashes. Start as close to lash line as possible, and looking down, place the brush against your lashes. Give it a quarter turn so the brush can really grab the lashes and coat them completely. Then wiggle the wand back and forth up the length of your eyelashes. Repeat. Allow the mascara to dry between each coat.

Expert Tip: For lush lashes, LA-based Makeup Artist Elle Leary likes to use a lengthening formula first and then a volumizing mascara for the second coat.

Benefit They’re Real Mascara Review

Benefit They're Real MascaraBenefit They’re Real Mascara Review

Benefit They’re Real mascara is the “in” mascara at the moment, so I had to try it. My hairstylist told recommended Christian Dior Addict It Lash Mascara. He said his daughter used it and it was like fake lashes. Whenever I went to find it I actually ended up with They’re Real instead because Addict It was gel based and I have oily skin. (This means my make up doesn’t always stay put.)

I first ordered it from Amazon and never received the product. (Can I give you a piece of advice? ONLY ORDER from Amazon and NOT third party sellers!)

After I sorted that mess out, I decided to make a trip to my local Sephora store and get the mascara.

Benefit They’re Real Mascara has this description on Amazon:

  • A jet-black mascara that lengthens, curls, volumizes, lifts, and separates lashes for a spectacular “out-to-here” look.
  • This breakthrough bestseller reveals lashes you never knew you had! The specially designed brush features staggered bristles that grab close to the root, boosting length and volume beyond belief. The custom-domed tip uses precision bristles to lift, define, and curl even your tiniest lashes. With a glossy, jet-black, long-wearing formula, you’ll flaunt luxurious, silky lashes that won’t smudge, clump, or dry out. True story!
  • Go horizontal! The staggered bristles grab close to the root, boosting length and volume. Then go vertical! The custom-domed tip with precision bristles lift, define, and curl even your tiniest lashes.

My Experience

My husband said my lashes were extremely noticeable when I used this mascara. That made me happy. However, I have a list of pros and cons below.

Pros

  • Very black color
  • Lengthens
  • Special tip on brush

Cons

  • Difficult to remove
  • Flakes after worn a few hours
  • Rubs off on my brow bone

The color is extreme charcoal black, which was exactly what I wanted. I definitely lengthens, but it takes multiple coats. The tip of the brush fans out so you can get to all the smaller lashes, as well as those in the corners.

This stuff is difficult to remove, which would be okay if it stayed in place. However, it flakes over time (see below) and rubs off on my brow bone. (To be fair, several brands of mascara rub off on my brow bone because I have long lashes and oily skin.)

Two coats of this mascara looks okay. Three coats really ramps up your lashes, but when I have three coats it always starts flaking off after a few hours. (It doesn’t flake if I only apply two coats, but my lashes only look so-so.)

My final analysis of this mascara is maybe it’s not for me. I think I will try Addict It and see what I think about it. According to reviews I have read, it is easy to remove since it’s a gel, but that might also make it rub off on my brow even more.

Avene Compact Review (Avene Sunscreen)

Avene CompactAvene Compact Review

I accidentally discovered the Avene compact while searching for powder sunscreen for my face. This happened to come up in the search results on Amazon and I didn’t even realize at first that it wasn’t a powder. It is actually a creamy texture and looks like a regular make up compact.

Well, as always I set out to research it. I found that it was recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation. You can view it here. (Just search under “recommended products” for foundations with SPF of 50 or higher.)

The Avene website listed the following benefits:

  •  Available in 2 shades: honey and beige
  •  100% mineral sunscreen provides broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection
  •  Enriched with patented Pre-Tocopheryl (a photostable form of vitamin E) for powerful antioxidant protection
  • Soft-to-touch, easy application with matte finish
  •  Paraben-free, fragrance-free, water resistant
  •  Hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic

I also read tons of reviews from users, and while there are always some people who will not like a product, the overwhelming number of reviews were very good.

But here was the strange thing. It only came in two colors.

What?

That’s right. Two colors. Beige and honey. But people were raving about how they were skeptical, but that it matched their skin perfectly. I have had some nightmare situations with “tinted” products that were supposed to blend into my skin, so I wasn’t too sure about that.

But I ordered the compact and waited.

When it finally arrived, the first thing I saw was that is had a separate area for the sponge. This lifted up to give access to the creamy product itself. As someone with oily skin, I always look for that in a compact. I don’t like for the sponge to get oily and gunky and  then sit in the powder, foundation, etc.

When I tried the product I was blown away. It covered better than the foundation I had been using…..or had ever used. And it was supposed to really be sunscreen, not foundation. It stayed in place and didn’t seem to wear off during the day either.

Those are the pros. Here are the cons.

I purchased the beige version. It went on so well and match my skin so completely that I couldn’t tell when I was missing a spot. However, I was sure someone else could tell when looking at my face outside, so I got out a magnified lighted mirror and found all those places. I also saw that the texture of my face left something to be desired. It sits on top of my skin and doesn’t absorb at all.

I realize that it IS a sunscreen first, and a foundation second. That can be understandable seeing as how you are getting stupendous sun protection.

But here’s the second problem. It is difficult for me to get the right amount of the product on the sponge and get it spread out evenly. I wind up thicker areas on my face that don’t look bad. For that reason, I simply cannot put it on without the magnified mirror I mention above. This makes it quite time consuming to get it on my face. (And I was trying to simplify things, not the other way around.) I considered mixing something with it (like a face corrector I like to use) in order to make it more manageable, but that really defeats the purpose of the product and cuts the SPF factor. It doesn’t go on well for me with water either.

Lastly, I found that after I after I had used the product just three times that I could already see the bottom of the compact in the center. Now, I am not saying that I used it up in three applications, because there was lots more product in the compact. But I am saying that I didn’t expect to see the bottom that quickly.

In the end I have to say this product could probably be great for someone who will take the time to apply it appropriately. It is also worth the money for the product if it’s benefits are important to you.

You can purchase the Avene compact here.

Avon MagiX Face Perfector Review (Avon Primer)

Avon Magix Face Perfector Review

Avon Magix Face Perfector Review

Here’s the only thing I have to say about this product: I love it.

In fact, I buy several boxes at a time.

(I try to give impartial reviews, but sometimes it hard.

I originally bought this product because a friend of mine was selling Avon and I bought something mostly to be nice. However, when I browsed through the book this product looked appealing. The low price made it definitely worth trying.

Product Features (According To Company)

  • air-light
  • colorless
  • invisible coverage
  • for all skin tones
  • wear alone or under foundation

My Experience

Avon Magix Face Perfector can be used it with make up or without, but I actually mix it WITH my foundation and then apply them together. It makes the foundation really creamy and gives me extra time to apply it before it sets. The best part is my foundation always looks fabulous!

It only takes a small amount to do the job, and a tub lasts a long time for me (probably around six months) since I don’t wear make-up every day.

I wear a foundation that has SPF made into it, and this product also has an SPF of 20.

When I first bought this product I wanted to get a matte finish to my foundation, help control oil on my face, increase sun protection, and cover imperfections.

This formula is very thick and white, but it rubs into my skin almost like a powder and leaves my skin feeling very soft. It has almost no smell, which I really like. It makes my foundation go look perfectly, helps with imperfection coverage, and increases my sun protection.

(My skin is getting a little dryer as I am getting older, so I’m not sure it this product actually helps with that or not.)

Like I said, I buy multiple boxes of this stuff at a time. I never apply foundation without it.

This has been MY experience, but every person has skin that can respond differently to things.
